ROM Procedure in Malaysia 2022

This year we decided to take a big step and plan to get married after being together for almost 4 years (this August)

Woke up at 6am getting ready heading to JPN Putrajaya to get the form for marriage registration.

Document required before you go to any JPN;
1. Photocopy of IC for bride and groom (bring along original IC, of course)
2. One set of passport photo for both bride and groom (white or blue background)

We reached there before 9am (since it's a bit jam because of working Monday). We were a bit confused when we get there so we asked the staff where to get the form. The staff told us to go to the first floor.

Went to First Floor of "Bahagian Perkahwinan and Penceraian" department and get the form at the counter. They will asked whether you want to get marry at JPN or other religious place. Since we decide to go to temple for registration, we received the form JPN.KC01F.

We filled in the form on the spot. You can use either black or blue pen.

After completed filling section required, we went to the Ground Floor(Pejabat Pesuruhjaya Sumpah) to the make Statutory Declaration with Commissioner of Oaths.

We took our queue number, waited for 2 couples before it was our turn.

Basically the Commisioner of Oaths will asked you to sign the declaration form and she/he will signed the stamped the form as well. The fees was RM4.

After that, we went back to First Floor (Bahagian Perkahwinan dan Penceraian) same counter, to get queue number.

When it was our turn, the staff checked thoroughly all our information on the form. After verification, we paid RM20 for the fees. The staff told us we have to register within 6 months from the date of our submission.

After verification, the staff told us that since I am from Sarawak, we need to wait for JPN Sarawak to verify my status. She said the earliest will be 1 hour, maximum will be 4 hours, depends. So we went to the cafeteria to have some food while waiting for the time to pass.

Around 45 mins later, we went back to the department and wait. After one hour, Kyan went to the counter to ask and the staff said they just received the letter from Sarawak. So we waited for awhile before the staff called Kyan's name and give us back the form, our original IC, and the letter from Sarawak.

So it's done. It only took 2 hours and a half to completed the process.

Before leaving, we took some picture at some of the background there. We took off our mask when there's no one around, of course.

One week later on Saturday morning, we went to Thean Hou temple to submit our marriage registration form. Luckily their office is open during the weekend. My boyfriend called their staff previously and we found out that from the date we submitted the form to Thean Hou temple, we have to fix a date during this 3 months. For e.g, if we submitted the form on March 2022, we have to proceed with our ROM on March - May 2022. But the staff also mentioned that March was already full so it will become April - June 2022.

We reached there around 11am and park at the parking area that costs RM5 per entry.

We headed straight to their office and took the queue number.

The screen is actually pretty small, we only know it's there when the staff there pointed out to us. Almost immediately it's our turn because there's only one couple in the office. When it's our turn, we submit all the necessary documents,

1. JPN marriage registration form (with photostate IC and passport size photo)
2. Photostate birth certificate
3. Photostate IC from both witnesses

Then the staff asked us what date we want for our registration. We choose 26 June but she said it's already full. So we have no choice but to choose our second choice which is on 12 June. After that she confirmed that the date and time (12pm) and the fees will be RM150.

When it's done, she explained to us that we have to be at the venue 15 minutes before the set time. Since it's still pandemic, they only allowed 7 pax to be inside the room. And the guests must dress formally. Guests cannot wear T-shirt, short pants, polo shirts and slippers.

And we are done! Only 3 months plus to prepare for our ROM ♥
