After leaving my first company, finally I have found a job in a media advertising agency. It seems positive at first. One of my ex colleagues are working there, the colleagues are friendly and nice and there will be no OT. After one month in the company, I was able to participate in their company trip in Lang Tengah.
The company is separate into two teams, one team is in traditional media while another team is in digital media. But after a few months there, there were rumors and scandal flying around. At first, they said the whole company will move to a new office at another area. Then there were rumors saying only the digital team will move to the new office. I was caught in the middle because I am in the traditional media team but more close to the digital team as we eat lunch together.
Few months later, it was decided that the digital team will move to the new office. Me as one of the designers, three sales executive, one accountant, one admin and two of the directors will remain in the old office. Those in digital department are told to be move in the middle of January. While the boss meet us (those in traditional media department) personally one on one and tell us about this moving thing. He told me "If you are not comfortable in staying, I will give you half month compensation or if you want to stay until you find a better offer also can" He said he already got back up plan. If I don't want to work anymore, he will ask those designer in digital team to manage my work. He told me to give him my answer by tomorrow. What choice do I have? Seems this is very last minute. I told him I will stay till I got better offer. I also asked him about my confirmation cos it is already 4 months. He said already confirm me and will increase my pay for RM100. I thought I am safe. But of course the story doesn’t end here.
Two days before Chinese New Year eve, one of the directors told me that they don’t need me anymore and ask me to work for another one month. By then, I just joined the company for 6 months. The reason is because the directors (business partners) can’t get along with the boss and they want to go their separate ways thus they are closing down the whole company. Then the business partners are going to open their own new company but doesn’t need a designer.
I think that’s their whole plan from the start. When I interview that time, they told me I will do traditional media and also digital stuff too. But in the end, I am handling the traditional part only. The head and the designer of the digital team didn’t let me touch anything for digital. The designer always complain she has a lot to do and busy. But when I asked her whether I can help or not, she will be like ignore me.
The boss did let me know I am confirmed after 3 months but though words of mouth only. As I am going to lose my job soon, and I still haven’t get my confirmation letter yet, I am getting freak out because I don’t have anything to ask them compensate me for one month. Thus, my battle begins. I keep chasing the boss’s sister but the sister said she is just waiting direction from his brother. Then I chase the boss but he said since everything is not settle with him and the business partners, he cannot do anything yet. Funny isn’t it? When my confirmation letter shouldn’t have anything to do with their settlement. One of the directors told me that it’s because the boss doesn’t want to compensate me.
I have no choice and nothing to lose so my colleague asked me to ask about this issue in the company group whatsapp chat. While my colleague asked about the bonus that he has promised to give us before Chinese New Year. To make a long story short, I did get my confirmation letter but we didn’t get any bonus for the traditional team (but the digital team got bonus) as the boss said it was unfair the calculation of the directors is different than his. My colleague did get pissed off at the boss because the boss promised her that he will give her bonus (she recorded this down on her phone) but in the end he didn’t want to give, even said that he never promise her before.
Another colleague of mine who is an admin is supposed to come back after Chinese New Year after her maternity leave. Before she come back, they told her that she doesn’t have to come in anymore as they don’t need her anymore.
Can you see how cruel this place is? When you are not valuable to them, they will just kick you out like that. Without thinking how this will affect other people life. I guess that’s life. I have learn a huge lesson.
